SENECA, SC – BASF’s site in Seneca partnered with Clemson University to sponsor its annual Be a T.I.G.E.R. Field Day on Saturday, April 15 and to engage youngsters in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning through hands-on construction of popsicle catapults. More than a dozen volunteers from BASF’s Seneca site attended the event, where 750 people – including children—learned about science and engineering in action, launching their university-colored poms in the air and connecting the fun to science and engineering. Each participant went home with an event shirt, a BASF frisbee and their catapult creations.

The free youth event is hosted by volunteer student-athletes who offer character-building games and activities for kids. Each letter in the word ‘TIGER’ stands for a certain character trait that is important for young children to understand and practice in their everyday lives. “T” stands for teamwork, “I” for integrity, “G” for gratitude, “E” for education and “R” for respect.

This yearly event is one of the Upstate’s major spring kickoff events. It precedes the Annual Football Spring Game and this year’s game drew a crowd of 50,000 attendees.
